  List of Winners

Twenty-one (21) year old Janet Taylor of No. 23 Parkinson Field, Pinelands, St. Michael is the recipient of the 2012 award by the GWP&Co. Scholarship Trust.

The scholarship winner was a student in the Law Faculty at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies from 2009 to 2012. She satisfied the requirements for the award of the Bachelor of Laws degree with First Class Honours at the end of 2011/12 academic year. Janet Taylor was a past student of Belmont Primary School, Combermere School and the Barbados Community College where she obtained an Associate Degree in Arts (Law and Sociology) with Credit in 2009.

The applicants for the 2012 award were interviewed by the Board of Directors of the Scholarship Trust under the Chairmanship of former High Court Judge, Sir Frederick Smith, K.A., Q.C. on Monday, 13th August. Sir Frederick who is now 88 years old had previously announced his intention to retire as Chairman of the Board at the end of the 2012 annual general meeting which was also held on the same date as the interviews of the applicants.

The awards for 2012 were presented to the scholarship winner by Attorney-at-Law Shontelle Murrell of the law firm George Walton Payne & Co. She is the firm's representative on the Board of Trustees of the charity. The Secretary/Treasurer of the Trust retired Permanent Secretary Darwin Goodridge and relatives of the two recipients of the awards, attended the presentation ceremony which was held at Dowell Chambers, Bridgetown on Monday, 27th August 2012.
